The Lake District has inspired artists and landscape painters for generations, and many of its quieter locations have directly influenced my collection of Lake District fine art prints. From misty waters and dramatic mountain scenery to peaceful hidden valleys, these landscapes capture the atmosphere and natural beauty that make the Lake District such a powerful source of artistic inspiration.

1. Martindale Valley: Nestled in the eastern fells of the Lake District, Martindale Valley is a tranquil and unspoiled area that offers a peaceful retreat from the crowds. The valley is home to Martindale Deer Forest, where you can spot red deer roaming freely in their natural habitat. The valley also boasts stunning views of Ullswater Lake and surrounding mountains, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing hike or picnic.

2. Ennerdale Water: While many visitors flock to nearby Buttermere and Derwentwater, Ennerdale Water remains a hidden gem in the Lake District. This remote and undeveloped lake is surrounded by pristine woodlands and offers a sense of seclusion and tranquility that is hard to find in the more popular tourist spots. Take a leisurely walk around the lake or enjoy a quiet moment by the water’s edge to truly appreciate the beauty of this hidden gem.

3. Loughrigg Tarn: Tucked away in the heart of the Lake District, Loughrigg Tarn is a small yet charming lake that is often overlooked by visitors. The tranquil waters of the tarn reflect the surrounding fells, creating a picturesque and serene setting that is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful picnic. The easy walk to Loughrigg Tarn offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and is a great way to escape the crowds and immerse yourself in nature.

4. Aira Force: Located near Ullswater Lake, Aira Force is a hidden waterfall that is well worth a visit for nature lovers and hikers. The waterfall cascades down a series of rocky steps surrounded by lush greenery, creating a magical and enchanting atmosphere that is sure to impress. Follow the well-maintained footpaths through the woodland to reach the waterfall and enjoy a peaceful walk in this hidden corner of the Lake District.

5. Borrowdale Valley: Tucked away in the southern part of the Lake District, Borrowdale Valley is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking views and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. The valley is home to picturesque villages, ancient woodlands, and some of the region’s most dramatic mountains, making it a paradise for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Explore the scenic trails, visit the quaint hamlets, and soak in the beauty of Borrowdale Valley for a truly memorable experience in the Lake District.

You can explore the full collection of Lake District fine art prints and wall art inspired by these landscapes in the Lake District prints collection.
