The Cheesewring, Bodmin Moor Summer – Fine Art Print

Capture the warmth and open beauty of Cornwall’s upland landscape with this fine art print inspired by the Cheesewring, set against the wide skies of Bodmin Moor in summer.

This artwork focuses on the distinctive stacked granite formation as it rises from the surrounding moorland, highlighted by brighter light and clearer conditions. Inspired by time spent exploring the Cornish moors in warmer weather, it reflects the contrast between solid rock, open space, and the softer tones of the summer landscape.

About the Location

The Cheesewring is a remarkable granite tor located on Stowe’s Hill on the eastern edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, near the village of Minions. It is one of the most recognisable natural landmarks in the region due to its unusual stacked appearance.

Formed naturally through weathering over thousands of years, the structure is made up of large granite slabs balanced on top of one another, creating a shape that resembles a traditional cheese press, from which it takes its name.

Standing at around 9–10 metres high, the formation appears almost improbably balanced, with larger slabs resting on narrower stones below.

The surrounding landscape of Bodmin Moor is characterised by open, windswept terrain, with granite outcrops, heather, and wide horizons stretching across Cornwall.

In summer, the moorland takes on a softer and more vibrant character. Clearer skies, longer daylight hours, and warmer tones transform the landscape, with sunlight highlighting the textures and shapes of the rock formation. The open setting allows for expansive views across the surrounding countryside, often extending towards both Cornwall and Devon on clear days.

The Cheesewring is also surrounded by a rich historical landscape, with nearby features such as the Hurlers stone circles and remnants of historic quarrying, adding depth and context to the area.

This print is designed to capture that seasonal atmosphere, focusing on light, colour, and the striking silhouette of the Cheesewring within the open moorland.
