Originally, the building is thought to have been used as a banqueting house or summer retreat, and also as a vantage point from which guests could observe hunting taking place in the park below.

Today, the Hunting Tower remains one of the most distinctive features of the estate, combining architectural character with a strong sense of elevation and perspective.
