The Boxing Gloves, Kinder Scout – Peak District Fine Art Print

Capture one of the Peak District’s most unusual natural features with this fine art print inspired by The Boxing Gloves, a distinctive gritstone rock formation set on the remote plateau of Kinder Scout.

This artwork focuses on the sculptural shapes of the rocks as they rise from the surrounding moorland, creating a striking and almost playful silhouette against the open landscape. Inspired by time spent exploring the northern edges of Kinder Scout, it reflects the raw, exposed character of this iconic upland environment.

About the Location

The Boxing Gloves are a distinctive group of gritstone rock formations located on the northern edges of Kinder Scout, the highest area in the Peak District National Park.

Formed over thousands of years by erosion, the rocks have developed unusual shapes that resemble raised fists or boxing gloves, giving them their memorable name. These natural formations are part of a wider landscape of weathered gritstone tors scattered across the Kinder plateau.

The formation lies between landmarks such as Fairbrook Naze and Ashop Head, in an area known for its rugged terrain and wide, open views. From this elevated position, the landscape stretches out across the Dark Peak, with distant hills and valleys visible in clear conditions.

Kinder Scout itself is a vast moorland plateau rising to over 600 metres, characterised by deep peat, eroded channels known as groughs, and exposed rock formations. The terrain can feel remote and challenging, adding to the sense of isolation and scale.

The Boxing Gloves are often visited as part of longer walks across the Kinder plateau, including routes along the northern edges and sections of the Pennine Way. Their distinctive shape and position make them a popular subject for photography, particularly when light and weather conditions highlight the textures of the surrounding landscape.

This print is designed to capture that combination of form and environment, focusing on the contrast between the sculptural rock and the vast, open moorland.
