Vale of Edale, Peak District – Fine Art Print

Capture the sweeping beauty of one of the Peak District’s most iconic landscapes with this fine art print inspired by the Vale of Edale, a wide valley surrounded by some of the region’s most famous hills.

This artwork focuses on the open fields, rising slopes, and surrounding ridgelines that define the valley, where the landscape unfolds in layers beneath wide skies. Inspired by time spent walking through Edale, it reflects the sense of space, calm, and connection to the surrounding peaks.

About the Location

The Vale of Edale is a broad upland valley located in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, forming the upper valley of the River Noe.

At the centre of the valley lies the village of Edale, which is surrounded by some of the most recognisable landscapes in the Peak District. To the north rises the Kinder Scout plateau, the highest point in the national park, while to the south runs the Great Ridge, connecting Mam Tor, Hollins Cross, and Lose Hill.

The valley stretches for around 7 kilometres and is enclosed by hills on all sides, creating a natural basin that feels both expansive and sheltered. The River Noe flows through the centre, eventually joining the River Derwent further east.

Edale is also the official starting point of the Pennine Way, one of the UK’s most famous long-distance walking routes, which begins in the village and climbs onto the surrounding hills.

The landscape of the vale is characterised by a mix of open fields, dry stone walls, farmsteads, and rising slopes that lead up to the surrounding moorland. This creates a strong sense of contrast between the softer valley floor and the more rugged terrain above.

The area is widely regarded as one of the best bases for exploring the Peak District, with walking routes extending in all directions towards Kinder Scout, the Great Ridge, and beyond.

Throughout the year, the valley changes with the seasons, from vibrant greens in spring and summer to muted tones and low light in winter, offering a constantly evolving landscape.

This print is designed to capture that sense of scale and setting, focusing on the relationship between valley, hills, and sky.
